Inner Scents - Quality Oils?
How do I determine quality of my oils?
I have carefull chosen my suppliers, and do the best I can with the skills I have to determine quality. My suppliers have direct connection with the farm or source of the oils they are buying. I have selected suppliers based on their reputations and histories of having the best supply of oils that Aromatherapist use. These suppliers do not have retail lines of oils, and usually only sell to those in the Aromatherapy business. They hire third party companies to test the oils (GC/MS) and do the importing of the oils into the USA.
Are your oils therapeutic grade?
Allow me to rant just a bit here.... I would not waste my time or money on mediocre, mass produced for commercial trade or adulterated oils. This term, therapeutic grade – is a marketing term, not a recognized, official grading term in the industry. This term was made famous by a multi level marketing company to cause suspicion of all other companies selling oils, and set themselves up as the superior company that sells oils for healing. Which is just not true. If this is a deep question for you, I URGE you to seek that answer for yourself by educating yourself on the standards and regulating boards concerned with botanical materials. Go to www.cropwatch.org to start. Your head will spin, and then maybe you can explain it all to me!!
As a professional Aromatherapist I pride myself on the connections & knowledge I have spent hundreds of hours developing in this field. From my over 400 hours of training from an accredited herbal college – not a sales based company weekend workshop education….to National Aromatherapy conferences, subscriptions to professional trade journals, research, and my personal experiences.
The professional aromatherapy community has always used oils grown, harvested and distilled with the purpose of keeping the life force in the plant, and producing the absolute finest aromatics. There are many large scale, mass produced uses for essential oils for perfume, commercial body care, toothpaste, food, industrial, etc. Then is are the oils grown by smaller farms, with the intention of oils for healing. Carefully selected, energetically alive oils are what I use.
