Shiatsu FAQ's

Shiatsu Therapy FAQ'sWhat should I wear?
Please wear workout type clothing.  T shirt, lightweight sweats, any comfortable clothing that will stretch and move is best for your comfort.

How long is an hour?
You receive the full hour of hands on service. Many places schedule clients on the hour so you only have 50 minutes of hands on time. I schedule enough time in between clients so you get the whole hour. Typically the first appointment is 1.5 hours, which includes your intake, and assessment.

What forms of payment do you accept?
Cash, check, check card, Visa, MasterCard and American Express.

What is your cancellation policy?
Please call at least 24 hours if you need to change or cancel an appointment. If you fail to notify Jodi you may be billed for the time unless it was able to be filled with another appointment.

What is expected of me during my appointment?
My priority is to meet your expectations of a positive, comfortable healing session. Communication is key. Please inform me or any therapist if you are uncomfortable in anyway – temperature, pressure, position on the table.  Never assume that I know when something hurts.
  • Sessions are tailored to your needs – for a relaxation focused session – please feel comfortable to remain silence.
  • For a session that is focused on resolving chronic issues and pain – a more interactive session is typical, so you can direct me to the exact locations, and what techniques work best for you.
  • Please refrain from wearing strong fragrances, wear clean clothing, turn off your cell phone and drink water before your session.
  • Please don’t hesitate to ask to take a bathroom break during the session if needed.
Does Shiatsu hurt?
I get asked this question all the time!!  I doubt you would come back if the whole session was painful and what would be the fun of that!!!?  You will find that during the session, we will find places, acupoints, on your body that are holding pain. Pain, in its simplest form, is just stuck energy. The point of the session is to ensure the free flow of Qi or energy in the meridians or channels. When we find the painful spots, we will GENTLY move into them to release them – only to your pain tolerance.  Most people describe this as good pain. This type of pain releases during the session.

Do you use oils?
Since Shiatsu is preformed over the clothing, typically I don’t use any lubricating oils.  Sometimes Cornstarch is used to smooth the skin on the neck, or abdomen.  Since I am trained in clinical Aromatherapy, essential oils are used on certain points or areas if desired or needed.

What other forms of healing work can I have in my session?
My primary treatment methods are Shiatsu bodywork and essential oils from both western and eastern methods. However, I am trained in many energy, intuitive, healing modalities. I feel that often these skills come into play during your session, just because they are such a part of who I am. You may request another modality and decide how we can fit it into your session. Examples: Spring Forest Qi Gong, or an intuitive reading.

Is there a place to relax after my massage?
I have another room next door that may be available for a short time, to relax, stretch, and enjoy some tea.  Please see my “other services” page to see how you can rent the room for a small fee and use my library of Spring Forest Qi Gong, Nei Gong, Yoga, Hypnosis, Breathing Exercises and other healing media.
